Welcome to Centralia Coin, Stamp, Etc... Our Story
Every company has a story to tell. You will be captivated by ours and we are thrilled to share it with you.
Family owned and operated
Centralia Coin, Stamp, Etc. is a family business that began as a hobby for Dan Griffin over 50 years ago. His father, Herman Griffin, was an avid collector of U.S. type coins and his passion for the hobby has now been passed down four generations. Father, Dan Griffin, and son Blake, have operated this storefront business together for over 25 years. In addition to their shop hours, both travel extensively to conduct business at trade shows throughout the United States. Blake's sons, Bradley and Lane are the fourth generation to develop an interest in the hobby. When not in school or playing a sport, they can be found packaging coins at the coin shop.
Dan Griffin started this business in 1989 as a part time hobby. Dan was a lifelong educator and last served as superintendent for Centralia City Schools before his retirement in 2002. Dan served his community as well. He was a member and past president of Centralia Noon Rotary. He served as chairman of the TIF Board in Centralia. He also served on the Centralia Foundation Board of Directors, as well as many other committees. Dan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was great at many things but the thing he was best at was being a FRIEND. Dan passed away February 26th, 2021.
Blake was formerly CO owner of Centralia Coin, Stamp, Etc. with his father, Dan, prior to Dan's death. Blake is a 1995 business graduate of Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. Blake spent 20 plus years in the residential and commercial real estate field and has extensive background in hotels and industrial buildings. In addition, Blake has over 30 years of experience in the coin industry. He has brought a trusting relationship with countless members of the coin dealer community and customers across the country. Blake also serves the community. He is a member and past president of Centralia Noon Rotary. He served 18 years on the Centralia City School board, (16 as Vice President) before being appointed in June of 2021 to serve on the Centralia City Council. Blake is a proud husband and father. His wife, Lori, is a chemistry teacher at Centralia High School. Son Bradley is attending Rose-Hulman University to study chemical engineering, and youngest son Lane is a High School student, wrestler, and baseball player who you will find working in the shop with dad from time to time.
