Our History

Centralia Coin, Stamp, Etc. is a family business that began as a hobby for current co-owner Dan Griffin over 50 years ago. His father, Herman Griffin, was an avid collector of U.S. type coins and his passion for the hobby has now been passed down four generations. Father, Dan Griffin, and son Blake, have operated this storefront business together for over 25 years. In addition to their shop hours, both travel extensively to conduct business at trade shows throughout the United States. Blake’s sons, Bradley and Lane are the fourth generation to develop an interest in the hobby. When not in school or playing a sport, they can be found packaging coins at the coin shop.

Dan, Centralia CoinDan is a retired educator having last served as Superintendent for Centralia City Schools before his retirement in 2002. Dan’s education background in both U.S. and World History serves this type of business very well. His extensive knowledge in grading, valuing and authenticating coins have developed into a key component for the success of this business. Dan is a well respected and valued member of the Numismatic industry. In addition, Dan continues to serve his community. Dan is a member and Past President of Centralia Noon Rotary. He serves on the Centralia Foundation Board of Directors, as well as various other committees. His favorite thing to do is spend time fishing with his grandsons.

Blake, Centralia CoinBlake, owner/partner of Centralia Coin Stamp, Etc., is a 1995 Business Graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Blake is a licensed Real Estate Broker with a real estate background in hotels and industrial buildings. Blake has had over 25 years of experience grading and valuing coins and has become a trusted authority among his peers in the coin business. Blake also serves in his community. Blake is a member and Past President of Centralia Noon Rotary. He is Vice President of Centralia City Schools Board of Education, and he serves as Chairman for the Centralia Recreation Complex Board.
